Description
For the second time in a row, Bára is transported back in time by the atlas in the middle of the night. This time, she finds herself in a completely deserted city. There isn't a soul on the streets, no windows are lit, and no cars are driving by... Hidden behind the trees in a park, she watches in horror as some men transport human corpses on a cart! Bára is convinced that all the people are hiding at night because some murderers are roaming the streets. She nearly dies of fear by morning. As soon as dawn breaks, she starts looking for a way out, but discovers that the place has walls and gates guarded by soldiers. There is no escape. Fortunately, she meets Petr, who hides her in the attic of the house where he lives with other boys, essentially like in a children's home. He and his three friends gather food, a blanket for her to sleep with, and other necessities for Bára, and from them, she gradually learns that she has found herself in a Nazi ghetto during World War II. During her wanderings in Terezín, she meets other individuals who illustrate the hopeless situation of the people imprisoned here – a talented student named Max, who injured his hand while working in a workshop and had to have it amputated without anesthesia due to a blood infection, because there are no medicines in Terezín, or the elderly Mrs. Blumenfeld, who is dying of hunger.
