Description

When NASA workers were looking for a profession that would require similar personality traits as those expected of top pilots, a computer reportedly evaluated several hundred job profiles and determined that the closest suitable profession was that of a teacher. It is therefore possible to state that teaching in a school is as demanding as piloting a space shuttle, if not more difficult and dangerous. Why, then, is there more care for the mental health of top pilots than for that of educators, when the stress is comparable? As the author himself states: 'If teachers knew and applied at least some insights from applied psychology, they would live 'richer inside', be happier in their private lives, and there would be greater harmony in classrooms, staff rooms, or school offices.' This publication aims to contribute to that happiness. After reading it, every teacher should better understand the challenges of the teaching profession, and this understanding can become a guide for managing various difficulties and obstacles in school. And if some issues still cannot be resolved successfully, the informed educator will not perceive them as personal failures. What did the author particularly focus on? He selects fundamental topics from personality psychology, general, developmental, social, and educational psychology...
