The author has combined theoretical and methodological contexts into categories in which she describes pathological gambling as an impulse control disorder; pathological gambling as a non-substance, behavioral addiction; pathological gambling in the context of social pathology within the family; pathological gambling in the context of obsessive-compulsive disorder; and pathological gambling in relation to substance addictions. Furthermore, individual influences of the family system in the context of gambling pathology are presented, including family functionality, relational ties in childhood and adulthood, and parental behavior and educational styles.
