Abdominal pain is one of the most common symptoms for which patients seek medical attention. When a patient presents with abdominal pain, it is necessary to answer many questions: where is it localized, what is its intensity, when did it start, what triggers or alleviates it, what position is the patient in, and how is it related to a specific situation, where does it radiate, and whether the patient has already been examined for this issue, what has been found, and how long the symptoms have lasted.
Abdominal pain can be a manifestation of circumstances that are either completely benign or conditions that pose an immediate threat to life. The differential diagnosis can be very broad, and abdominal pain can have causes in other organ systems as well. Based on this, the concept of this ambitious book was created.
The book "Abdomen and Pain" has a general section that includes preliminary examinations, ultrasound examinations, and imaging studies. An integral part of the book is also a chapter dedicated to laboratory tests.
The special section contains the most extensive chapters from internists and surgeons, including pediatric surgeons. The differential diagnosis of abdominal pain in both its acute and chronic forms is addressed in separate chapters by specialists such as infectious disease experts, gynecologists, urologists, cardiologists, and angiologists.
