Description
The study builds on the author's previous publications in the field of linguistic pragmatics (Pragmatics in Czech, The Czech Sentence at the Interface between Grammar and Pragmatics) and on some articles published in recent years. The concluding chapter of Pragmatics in Czech briefly pointed out partial metapragmatic themes, while the current monograph addresses this issue with great thoroughness.
The analysis of the utilized texts indicates that the meta-approach represents not only a different perspective on language use but also allows for placing earlier observations and analyses into a systematic framework and capturing the relationships between phenomena in which the reflection of individual aspects of usage manifests. The presentation of such a framework, which differentiates various indicators of metapragmatic awareness and shows their interaction, can be considered a contribution of the metapragmatic approach of this publication. It demonstrates that the metapragmatic approach is not in conflict with the fundamental themes of linguistic pragmatics; rather, it complements them.
