This Czech-language collection pays tribute to the recently deceased Professor Eduard Gombár (1952–2025), a leading Arabist, historian of the Middle East and diplomat. Its introduction presents selected memories from his students, complementing his previously published biography, alongside valuable reflections by Gombár himself on his personal and professional career. Contributions by students and colleagues from several generations address both the theoretical foundations of Oriental studies and the history and present of the Orient, from Muslim Spain to Central Asia and Afghanistan. Together, they demonstrate the geographical and thematic breadth of inspiration and the capacity for profound analysis that Professor Gombár passed on to his successors.
