Description

One of the first books that Erazim Kohák published at home after returning from exile. In fourteen lectures, he comments on the problems that people faced in their time and which thinkers have addressed from the 'dawn of humanity' to our present. The author referred to the book as 'scripts', which meant not only that it is based on university lectures but primarily that it is not a dogma, a final conclusion of thought. In the author's own words, they capture only one moment in the ongoing, never-ending struggle of humanity with the multifaceted nature of human possibilities. He presents his theses from 1992 (first published in 1993) more as something he wants to debate rather than something he wants to defend. "These lectures represent an attempt at cultural self-reflection in the mirror of history during a period of radical questioning of our certainties. Although they deal with history, they are not about history itself, but about insights into the problems and possibilities of human existence for us, the heirs and bearers of European civilization."
