Description
This textbook is intended for first-year medical students with an advanced knowledge of English. Its priority is to introduce medical terminology in English, particularly through anatomical descriptions of individual body systems. The texts are accompanied by exercises that help students learn and consolidate specialist vocabulary and review the topics covered in each lesson. Each chapter includes Language Spots covering selected linguistic features of medical English, Reading Spots with information from medical practice and Grammar Spots presenting selected grammar in a medical context. The textbook also contains listening exercises and additional material related to the specialist topics, with review exercises. It concludes with an overview of the most commonly used abbreviations and an English-Czech glossary. The book is intended especially for students of the Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Pilsen, but it can also serve students at other medical faculties and members of the professional community.
