This book attempts a critical interpretation of the history of Israel. It is not a harmonizing interpretation that accepts as fact the image presented by texts, nor is it an interpretation that supports biblical accounts with archaeological and epigraphic data. Instead, it offers the reader a whole range of possibilities for understanding biblical narratives on both historical and theological levels. It relies on the latest discoveries from Israeli excavations and presents new hypotheses and reconstructions based on an interdisciplinary dialogue between biblical studies, archaeology, and history.
