Description
The Czechoslovak Church (Hussite) was the second largest Czech church for most of the 20th century and still ranks among the most significant religious organizations today. It is unique in many respects on a global scale. Its founding a hundred years ago represented the largest church schism within a single national community since the Reformation, and the church has undergone and continues to undergo a complex and intellectually stimulating search for theological and spiritual identity. The Encyclopedia of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church not only presents general information but primarily focuses on the local and regional dimensions of these efforts. It provides basic information about the formation and development of all individual religious communities and other organizational structures of the church, as well as summarizing chapters on its history, theology and liturgy, the development of sacred architecture, and changes in its membership base.
