Description
The second volume of this legal English textbook contains ten lessons and two appendices. The lessons cover public law, including the Council of Europe, EU law, criminal law, criminal procedure and civil procedure, as well as private law, including torts, company law and company dissolution. Its aim is to introduce students to the basic language of these legal fields so that, with knowledge of the relevant terminology, they can correctly interpret English legal texts and discuss Czech law in English within the areas covered. Students also learn to compare the concepts of Czech law and common law, identify similarities and differences, and express them appropriately. Each lesson has two sections. Section A presents the essential content of the relevant legal field through short authentic English texts, accompanied by exercises reinforcing both factual knowledge and basic terminology. Section B offers guidance on translating Czech legal texts into English. Each lesson ends with a glossary and the answers to the Section A exercises. Appendix I briefly explains how to write an abstract of a specialist text in English, while Appendix II outlines how to compile bibliographic information for a specialist text in English. The printed textbook also includes an electronic PDF version of the Word Study language exercises for each lesson.
