Description
Boris Bove presents the Hundred Years’ War as an intellectual construct that seeks to define the repeated conflicts between the kingdoms of France and England from the 1290s to the 1450s. He interprets this long crisis as an accompanying feature of the transition to a new social order, which gave rise to representative institutions in the form of the Estates General. At the same time, he describes the Hundred Years’ War as a milestone in the history of the monarchy, since its length, the fragility of the Valois dynasty, the suffering of the population and the English occupation strengthened a sense of belonging to the French nation. In this way, it laid the foundations for the nation-state that continued to take shape until the nineteenth century.
