Description
In this book, Ivan Krastev and Stephen Holmes examine the emergence and rise of movements and political currents opposed to liberalism, which have in recent years decisively challenged the assumption that the future would inevitably be liberal. They find notable parallels between developments in Central and Eastern Europe, Putin’s Russia and Trump’s United States, viewing these changes and the rise of populist politicians as consequences of the collapse of hope for a unipolar liberal-democratic world dominated by the United States. They explore the factors behind this transformation, including the internal economic crisis in the United States, depopulation in Eastern Europe, resentment over the imitation of the West imposed on former Soviet-bloc countries, and the hypocrisy of American foreign policy. The authors describe the breakdown of the liberal-democratic order factually, with some nostalgia but also cautious optimism about the future. The contents are in Czech.
