Description
This collective monograph, created by theologians and art historians, explores the various aspects of humanity’s search for transcendence throughout history and in the present day. The first part examines how men and women have sought and found the face of God through the texts of the Old and New Testaments, sacred images, and philosophical and theological speculation. The second follows this philosophical and theological questioning in the works of modern thinkers such as Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche, Auguste Comte, Jan Patočka and Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Pope Francis), while also considering its expression in modern art. Since believers have always found themselves, their own faces, while seeking to know God, and since the modern world no longer regards the search for transcendence as essential, the book centres on the question of whether postmodern humanity has also abandoned the search for its true purpose and ultimate fulfilment. The contents are in Czech.
