Description
Hygiene, along with epidemiology, represents the integral, biomedical foundations of public health. The threats of epidemics, devastating rural and urban populations and paralyzing fighting armies, led to the emergence of two new medical disciplines in the 19th century. Hygiene is the science of protecting and promoting health. Originally, it dealt with all factors affecting both the physical health and psyche of a person, as well as the medical aspects of disease occurrence and prevention. The strong link between hygienic theories and the health status of the population remains in its original form in the prevention of infectious diseases, later in the newly forming epidemiology, whose gradual development into today's epidemiology of non-communicable diseases is a remarkable success of medicine. The purpose of this textbook is to support the preparation of undergraduate students for the state rigorous examination at the desired level of knowledge.
