This Czech-language book provides comprehensive information about poisonous and potentially poisonous plants of the Central European flora, including their identifying features, toxic constituents, symptoms of poisoning and ways of helping those affected. Plant poisoning accounts for a small but stable proportion of intoxications requiring hospitalisation. Several specific examples illustrate the introductory chapters, which explain why some plants are toxic, how to determine the cause of poisoning and the general principles of treatment. The following section presents almost 300 plant species that can harm human health under certain conditions, shown in colour photographs. These include native Central European species and long-established naturalised plants, as well as species introduced only recently or imported as ornamental indoor plants. The publication is intended for the broad healthcare community, especially general practitioners and pharmacists, as well as teachers and parents. All of them may help identify a poisonous plant, provide first aid and pass information about it to a specialist healthcare facility.
