Description
The collection Syntax - Semantics Interface is a selection of studies by Eva Hajičová published between 1973 and 2014 and is based on the theoretical framework of Functional Generative Description, as formulated by Petr Sgall in the 1960s and further developed by his students, among whom the author belongs. The themes of the selected studies reflect the author's scientific interest and contribution in four areas: (i) specification of dependency relationships in the deep (semantic) dependency structure of sentences, (ii) current sentence segmentation and its relation to the analysis of linguistic negation, the concept of presupposition, and other linguistic phenomena, (iii) building an annotation scheme for a dependency corpus of Czech texts usable for verifying theoretical hypotheses, and (iv) discourse analysis and the associated definition of the hierarchy of elements in the body of knowledge shared by the speaker and listener. All contributions, except for one, were originally published in English, which also means that in presenting her own conclusions, the author took into account the current state of research not only in our country but also abroad.
