Description
This publication sketches a portrait of Prague during the reign of the Jagellonian dynasty and the first Habsburgs on the Czech throne. From the last third of the fifteenth century and throughout the sixteenth century, Prague’s individual towns gradually transformed their medieval appearance into a Renaissance one. The Prague Castle complex also underwent a striking transformation, gaining a ball game hall and a summer palace for Queen Anne in the royal garden. After the historical introduction, readers follow the author through the Renaissance metropolis of the Kingdom of Bohemia, guided by her informed commentary. Historical documentary images and photographs of exteriors are accompanied by maps with a location index and an overview of notable figures.
