Description
French philosopher and essayist Olivier Mongin presents a structured discussion of what the city or urban space means today, in the era of globalisation. Rather than an interdisciplinary encyclopaedia, the book offers a framework for bringing together the different fields connected with the subject, including literature, history, architecture and the social sciences. Its aim is to allow the city to become a general concept again: the polis, an object of politics in the broadest sense, representing what citizens share, rather than merely a term with unrelated meanings in different areas of expertise. The urban situation refers not only to the relationship between the principles and realities of urban space, but also to the urban experience arising from its use. The contents are in Czech.
