This book traces the formation and transformation of Prague's gardens and parks as an integral part of the Czech capital's thousand-year development, covering palace, castle, monastic, private and public spaces. In the opening section, the author clearly outlines and explains the process of their creation and change in historical and stylistic contexts, drawing on new insights into their history. The second section focuses on individual gardens and parks, presenting them in groups according to location and introducing each area with an overall description. Illustrated with representative photographs and historical documentary images, the book also explains specialist terms, includes an overview of woody plants, an index of notable people and information on locations. For selected historic gardens, the author additionally examines their distinctive spatial relationships.
