This Czech-language publication examines the basic aspects of the human psyche. It defines general psychology and its position within the system of psychological sciences, and introduces the basic methods used to understand and assess individual psychological manifestations and functions. It also considers the organic basis of the human psyche, the brain, which enables its development and influences how it functions. The book places particular emphasis on this biological basis, on changes in psychological functions at different stages of life, and on an overview of various concepts related to the topics discussed, while maintaining a clear main line of interpretation. The theoretical sections alternate with illustrative, accessible examples and are supplemented by charts and other documentary illustrations. A largely independent section contains an extensive list of psychological literature, with references to general psychology and a wide range of specialised fields.
