Description
This book by Charles University in Prague professor Bedřich Moldan is the second, expanded and updated edition of a successful publication that received Charles University’s Rector’s Award for the best monograph in the natural and medical sciences in 2009. Its central concept remains the Anthropocene, but the arrangement has changed considerably since the first edition. In four sections, it surveys today’s world from a historical perspective through the relationship between humans and nature, focusing on the fundamental forces driving current development; examines the present state of the Earth system of which we are part and its prospects for the future; and analyses how human society responds to the environmental situation, how these responses have developed and how they are applied in different areas of human activity.
