Description
The monograph offers a comprehensive introduction to the life of Josef Zvěřina from 1913 to 1967, presenting a lifelong bibliography of his published works (including samizdat) and manuscript or typewritten materials, and provides a diachronic analysis of this material. The first two aspects, although relatively independent values, serve the third aspect: the biographical and bibliographical study fulfills a propaedeutic function in relation to grasping Zvěřina's reflection. The history of the person and his work thus becomes the history of the knowledge he lived. The exceptional connection between Zvěřina's life and his reflection is hinted at by the words 'the courage to be the Church,' which he himself used to title one of his most famous studies and which are embedded in the title of the entire book. They suggest that Josef Zvěřina 'was the Church' in an extraordinary way and that this 'being the Church' was also reflected upon.
