Description
The role of food in a child’s life is examined from various perspectives and in a broader context. The book explores the effects of food and its components on physical and mental development, while eating behaviour is shown to develop in relation to genetics, sensory stimuli, motor skills and social interactions. From an early age, attitudes towards food, individual preferences and aversions take shape. Food forms part of a child’s personality, experience of relationships with the outside world and view of their own abilities. The development of eating behaviour is influenced by the family and social environment, and eating disorders can arise from an early age. Nutritional habits in the family and negative social influences contribute to them. Serious disorders may result both from a spontaneous reduction in food intake and from excessive consumption beyond the body’s physiological needs, leading to obesity. A child’s personality can also be affected by inappropriate attitudes among peers, while reduced physical activity contributes to obesity. The treatment and prevention of eating disorders require cooperation with the family, positive motivation of the child, and the development of new forms of behaviour, interests and attitudes towards society, life and oneself. The book is in Czech.
