Description
This monograph is designed as a resource for university students, teachers, and other interested parties seeking knowledge about Roman metrics. The first part introduces the reader to the main prosodic principles, while the second part covers all the more important verse and stanzaic forms. Numerous examples are included for all the stated rules and verse forms, both in textual and metric (graphic) form. Given that current academic interest and university studies focus not only on works from the classical period but also on poetic works from marginal periods, examples illustrating the given phenomenon are chosen for each verse dimension to cover the widest possible time spectrum. This should contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of poetic production throughout the duration of Roman poetry and the formal development of each verse form.
