Description
In the Amish farm of the Gingerich family, a fire breaks out in the middle of the night, destroying an old barn. As if that weren't bad enough, desperate parents discover that their oldest son, Daniel, has gone missing. And the firefighters find human remains in the rubble of the barn. The case is taken up by Kate Burkholder, the chief of the Painters Mill police department, which has jurisdiction over the farm. The initial reports do not bode well – the fire was most likely set intentionally. An autopsy also confirms that Daniel Gingerich indeed perished in the barn. Kate embarks on the investigation of the young man's murder, who was praised by everyone who knew him. But not everything that glitters is gold, and the chief uncovers one terrible secret after another from the hints within the Amish community...
