Description
Near Benešov by Ploučnice, Marko of Vartemberk's cousin is building the Ostrý Castle for the monarch. From the beginning, the construction is plagued by difficulties, and therefore Marko asks his brother-in-law Oldřich of Chlum for help. However, before he can take on his duties, the mayor is murdered in Benešov at night, and according to his wife, it was done by three brothers and their sister, who were accused of robbery and hanged the night before in Děčín. However, the bodies of the hanged have disappeared. People are frightened, and especially no one wants to speak with the royal authorities. Influential relatives of Hynek Berka of Dubá, who control the estates in the area, also oppose Oldřich of Chlum. Evil seems to be piling up, and the dead are increasing, especially at Ostrý itself. Oldřich of Chlum and his helpers must choose to investigate mostly in secrecy this time.
