Description
Vok from Rotštejn, who boasts the coat of arms of the Markvartics, loses his wife Anežka under unclear circumstances; she is found dead beneath the rock on which his castle towers over the landscape like an eagle's nest. Her death is ruled by the royal executioner as a tragic accident, but soon he is killed as well. A crowd of relatives gathers for Lady Anežka's funeral, and it is then that one of the guests spots the dead noblewoman sneaking across the courtyard. Oldřich from Chlum learns that helping relatives is the least rewarding task when he promises his wife Ludmila to investigate the whole matter. As soon as he begins his search, more people start dying under mysterious circumstances.
