Description

The second part of the four-part novel fresco about the lives of the last Přemyslid kings begins during Václav's childhood, when Přemysl I. Otakar fights for recognition of his marriage to Constance of Hungary and thus for the legalization of the succession rights of little Václav. He aligns himself with the emperor and finally gains definitive confirmation of the royal crown through the Golden Bull of Sicily. At that time, little Václav finds himself by his side and learns to rule. After the death of his father, he is also crowned King of Bohemia, but he is convinced that he must rule differently. He begins to build an ostentatious royal court, surrounding himself with knights and artists. His political dream is to acquire the Austrian lands, with which he has been at war for decades, and when he finally fulfills his plans with the marriage of his eldest son, his son Vladislav dies. The second part of the tetralogy ends with Václav I. declaring his second-born son, the future king Přemysl II. Otakar, as his successor.
