Description
The plot of the novel takes readers to the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries during the reign of Václav IV. In a kingdom where everyone fights against each other, Hynek Tas of Bor, a fiercely trained medieval bodyguard, returns from Italy after many years. After a conflict with the royal town of Beroun, he comes very close to the gallows, but ultimately ends up in the king's service. The main character seems to be a man without feelings and emotions, who can observe without blinking as life escapes from his opponent, yet due to the loss of his dog, he declares enmity against King Zikmund and thus unleashes one of the greatest hunts of that time. The story takes place mainly in the territory of Bohemia but also leads readers far beyond its borders. The reader will also encounter the representative of the Noble Unity, Jindřich of Rožmberk, the all-powerful under-chamberlain Zikmund Huler, the ethereal, pure, and loving Blanka of Lazce, or the sensual, passionate, and mysterious Sofia Mafredonni.
