Description
Wim spent his childhood in a poor Amsterdam family, and when the Nazis occupied the Netherlands, he had to go to forced labor in Germany. From there, he managed to escape and hide for a while, but ultimately found himself caught in the machinery of concentration camps. Hard labor, filth, lack of food, abuse from guards, and the ever-present death – Wim managed to survive, but in April 1945, as the Allies approached the Neuengamme camp, the Germans began to cover their tracks. Up to four thousand prisoners were herded onto the ocean liner Cap Arcona, preparing to sink the ship to eliminate inconvenient witnesses to their crimes.
