Description
After traumatic events that led to his retirement, Armand Gamache, former Chief Inspector of the Sureté du Québec, enjoys a quiet life in the remote village of Three Pines and is slowly recovering from his wounds. His physical injuries are healing well, but the ones he suffered to his soul are another matter. As if it weren't enough to grapple with his own demons, his neighbor Clara Morrow adds another to the mix. She asks him for help in searching for her husband Peter, who did not return home on the agreed day after a year of separation. Gamache is terrified at the thought of leaving his safe haven, but he cannot refuse Clara's plea for help, so he sets out with his son-in-law and former deputy Jean Guy Beauvoir and another neighbor, Myrna Landers, to follow Peter's trail across Quebec and into the depths of Peter's troubled soul. However, the further they progress along the path marked by Peter's strange paintings, the greater their fear of what they might ultimately find.
