The personality of the seventh Czechoslovak president, Army General Ludvík Svoboda, is well-known to older generations, while younger generations are aware of him due to the controversies of recent times. Although there are several biographies of Svoboda, most are determined by the time of their creation and the effort to avoid naming contemporary issues. The author had the opportunity to familiarize himself almost entirely with Czech archival materials, often even unprocessed, especially with the entire legacy of the head of the Czechoslovak state. The result is the first extensive scientific monograph about a man who has become a symbol for many generations of our citizens.
