The book Art Therapy – From Individual Experience to Collective Contexts is based on the author's hard-earned experience, whose main goal is to apply her own methods when working with people. The uniqueness of the approach is evident both from the broadly conceived (self)critical text oscillating between autobiography and popular science literature, as well as from the visually rich appendix. Magdalena Westman Kocábová gained her first experiences with autoart therapy during four years spent in South Africa. Creating images helped her remain integrated in a completely different cultural environment. Not to fall apart. After returning to the Czech Republic, she wrote a number of inspiring projects and published her first book. Nearly a decade of art therapy experience with people with mental disabilities inspired her, among many other things, to create her own artistic methods/games that have the potential to connect people across society.
