Description
The deer are carefree, but the same cannot always be said for the owner of the game preserve. This collection of short stories, like the author's previous works, revolves primarily around nature and hunting. In stories based on real-life fates, the author guides the reader through picturesque foothill landscapes. Sun-warmed meadows, the scent of fallen apples, the acrobatic antics of swifts crossing the azure sky, the sparkle of golden sunlight on the clear water's surface, the endless silence of forest valleys – all of this frames the hunting experiences and the eternal conflict of life and death that accompanies both the animal and human worlds, which the author views with wise detachment. Aleš Dostál (*1946) was born in Ostrava, studied at the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Agriculture in Brno, and worked for the Czech Republic Forests. He is the author of several novels and short stories.
