Description
Russian satire has deep roots. The very title of this book is an ironic reference to a similar Soviet tradition of small, mostly celebratory prose. However, the author writes about a completely different homeland than the Soviet one, and his stories often take the form of political thrillers. From various angles, he X-rays Russian 'democracy' from the early 1990s, revealing a panopticon of human types, from the social elite to the reality of the nouveau riche 'new Russians', relationships within the scientific community, or the ideologically deviant environment of an advertising agency. His social wit and biting sarcasm mercilessly target even the realm of 'ordinary' people. The second edition of the book is expanded with two new stories.
