Description
Herbert Cukurs, known as the Butcher of Riga, murdered about thirty thousand Latvian Jews. He managed to avoid the Nuremberg Trials and fled to South America after the war. In 1965, when the statute of limitations for all Nazi war crimes was about to expire, global efforts to track down Nazi criminals escalated. The Mossad, Israel's national intelligence agency, played a significant role in this process.
