Karel Engliš came from a poor family in Silesia. Thanks to his talent, diligence, and perseverance, he rose to become a leading Czechoslovak economist. However, he was not satisfied with just the academic field; he sought to implement his ideas and theories in practice. He was a long-time Minister of Finance, without whom no one could imagine the government at a certain time. Later, he also became the governor of the Czechoslovak National Bank.
