Description
Aloysius "Al" MacBharrais has a special talent. He is a seal-maker: using magical inks, he can cast spells called Seals, which protect our world from incursions by beings from elsewhere and enforce treaties with all known deities. Only five people in the world possess the same skill as he does. However, Al has a problem: he would like to train an apprentice in his advanced age, but all his previous apprentices have died in one unfortunate accident or another. When his latest apprentice, Gordie, loses his life, Al discovers that the young man had secretly been trading with magical beings behind his back, and he is reluctantly drawn into a dangerous search for whom Gordie was supplying. He is assisted by a printing house manager with a quiff and a talent for clairvoyance in battle, a hacker with an unusual hobby, and a mischievous sprite on the run from the goddess's henchmen. Will he uncover the truth before enemies or the police, who are suspicious of the increasing deaths around Al, catch up with him?
