Description
The Battle of Britain begins. It is the summer of 1940, Europe is plunging into the chaos of war, and most Britons are gazing up at the skies over England. However, Evie Lucas has eyes only for the brilliant young pilot Tony. A dazzling career as an artist awaits her, but she is wasting time endlessly drawing portraits of Tony. She wants his parents to have a keepsake in case something unfortunate happens to him in the war... Seventy years later, freshly widowed art historian Lucy is trying to piece together the fragments of her own life and resurrect it from the ruins. To do this, she needs to uncover the mystery surrounding a painting by the famous artist Evelyn Lucas. Unwittingly, she awakens a long-buried history that has been deliberately silenced and brings down the wrath of those who have no interest in the unspoken truth surfacing. In her novel, the author again alternates between two time frames (the wartime one is partly inspired by her father's experiences) and, as always, surprises the reader with an unexpected resolution to the love story.
