Description
When the main character and author in one arrives in England for the first time, she sees everything idyllically. A new beginning in a new country, plenty of opportunities, new friendships, and partying into the night without having to report to anyone where she is going and when she will return. However, these notions dissolve as soon as she settles into her first apartment with a bunch of strangers, gets her first job in a pub, learns English on the go, and realizes that London may not be as fairy-tale-like as she imagined. In her essays, she touches on Czech-British coexistence, dating, horrific and even more horrific jobs, traveling around the islands, but also the challenges of getting along with neighbors or the antics with the ever-present squirrels. She describes the everyday joys and sorrows of British life with biting sarcasm and is not afraid to make fun not only of the things and people around her but also of herself.
