Description
Eva Romanová, along with her brother Pavel, formed our most famous figure skating pair. The Roman siblings competed in ice dance, becoming world champions four times and winning two gold medals at the European Championships. When they competed in the first half of the 1960s, the entire nation gathered around the television to cheer them on. People nicknamed them 'our children' because they were very young at that time.
Mrs. Eva recalls in her charming and engaging book her and Pavel's childhood, their determined father, devoted mother, and coach Mrs. Míla Nováková, their beginnings in figure skating and sports successes, life in socialist Czechoslovakia, and in the revue Holiday on Ice, where she and Pavel transitioned after ending their competitive careers. She talks about her marriage, the animals she and her husband loved, life in England, the USA, and the Czech Republic, as well as Pavel's death. Although she chose England for her current life, she enjoys returning to the Czech Republic and has many friends here, some of whom contributed their memories of our figure skating legends at the end of the book. The entire narrative is complemented by many black-and-white and color photographs.
