Liberation by a single thought, the greatest threat to humanity – the Borg – is gone, absorbed into the Caeliar collective. But is that really the case? The perfection granted to all Borg has, however, been denied to Seven of Nine. Left behind from the others, she lives in a strange existence – neither Borg nor human – and is slowly losing her mind. The whisper of the Collective, the quiet hum she has always known, has been replaced by an inner voice insisting that she is Annika Hansen, an individual. Chakotay, the former captain of Voyager, offers her help with the journey to the ships that Starfleet has sent to the Delta Quadrant, the most likely place for the Caeliars to be found. Among the stars, far from the friendly space of the Federation, lies the unknown and unexpected in the mundane routine.
