Aleš Dostál's latest novel takes place in an unspecified foothill region of Moravia. The main character, a fresh retiree, returns to the place of his first posting after twenty years due to a school reunion. Here, in 1992, his great bark beetle war began, and from here he had to leave due to certain misunderstandings and injustices. Kamil looks forward to meeting his classmates and friends while imagining what the new forest he established after the calamity looks like. Is there a monument of glory or shame left behind?
