Description
This Czech-language novel follows Anna Langová, a fifty-year-old German woman who discovers during a visit to the bank that four thousand euros have been paid into her account. The money was sent by a certain Abu Usama, whom she does not know, so she has no idea whether it belongs to her. The next day, she is summoned to the police and learns that Abu Usama is, or was, her son Richard, who converted to Islam and carried out a suicide bombing in Istanbul, taking many tourists with him. Devastated and unable to understand what happened, Anna tells Commissioner Kroll about Richard’s life from the very beginning, hoping to make sense of it all. Kroll listens patiently, hoping to uncover something, and the questioning continues late into the night. After Anna leaves for home, Kroll begins searching for clues.
