Description
The monograph deals with the changes occurring within partnerships and family relationships. It analyzes liminal phases during which people abandon established behavior patterns, while new ones have yet to be created and tested. Therefore, they find themselves in between the known and the unknown, in a state of uncertainty, often accompanied by strong emotions. What was common, majority, typical, supported by various formal and informal institutions, rules, legislative and social norms, suddenly begins to be questioned, transcended, re-established, and negotiated. With the growing variability of different partnership and family forms, people are freeing themselves from original limits and established role expectations, yet there are no guidelines on how to handle various situations and what obligations and commitments one has towards other family members. The publication seeks answers to the quality of life in various partnership and family constellations, how people cope with many liminal situations, and whether one can speak of a gradual movement towards a new normativity.
