Description
The work presents the Dictionary of Contemporary Slovak Language from the perspective of codification. For the Slovak literary language environment in which this dictionary is being developed (four volumes have been published so far), it is characteristic to apply conflicting codification attitudes towards the concepts of language user, norm, and standard language. The text will bring the reader closer to how the author-editorial team of the dictionary approaches these concepts and how these starting points are reflected in its lexicographic practice, for example, in determining the belonging of words to various types of non-standard lexicon or in processing anglicisms. The attitudes of users will also be addressed. The reader will learn about the role that the frequency of linguistic means plays in determining the norm and how it relates to their functioning in differentiated communication environments. In this context, the work could not overlook the fact that the erosion of communication norms in the public environment is accompanied by the acceptance, even preference, of verbal aggression.
