Description
In Poland in 1944, a train carrying a sixteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family finally stops at Auschwitz. They do not know that the moment they arrive on the platform will be their last together. Her mother and younger brothers are sent straight to their deaths, while her father is assigned to the Sonderkommando, where he spends several months removing prisoners’ bodies from the gas chambers before he too is executed. Sara survives. This account, written by her daughter Eti, tells of Sara Leibovitsová’s real experiences, unimaginable pain and suffering during her time in the death camp. Throughout it all, she remains faithful to family values of courage, faith and kindness towards others. Seventy years later, Eti also reveals the inherited trauma of the second generation, bringing to a close the story of a Holocaust survivor. The contents are in Czech.
