Description
This richly illustrated retrospective presents twelve sacred buildings and church renovations designed by Marek Jan Štěpán between 1991 and 2021. Although his portfolio is much broader, the public mainly knows him as a church architect, and his buildings and restorations have received numerous honours, including international recognition. The period covered begins and ends with the church in Lesná, Brno. In 1991, Štěpán won a competition with his diploma project for a spiritual and pastoral centre for the Lesná housing estate, but it was not built at the time. Instead, his second project was realised, resulting in the present church dedicated to Blessed Maria Restituta. The publication also presents unrealised projects and visions, typological variations of liturgical space based on his own and historical examples, and numerous hand-drawn sketches that reveal the creative architect’s ways of thinking in today’s highly technologised digital age. The book also reflects Štěpán’s teaching work and his contribution to educating the next generation of architects. The contents are in Czech.
