Description
How to teach the subject of tradition and new urbanism at a university of architecture? The very word 'tradition' discourages many students today—they want everything new, modern, and unconventional. The phrase 'new urbanism' is also somewhat misleading, and many students do not enroll in this seminar. I tried to find a way to engage students in this subject, to spark their interest in our architectural history with a connection to the present. I chose a story—a story of a building. How else does an architect tell stories but through drawing or sketching? This method is the closest to him. From such reflections, the assignment for the seminar paper emerged. Draw a comic about a specific Czech building of your choice. You must draw everything by hand, and the stories can be partially fictional. You have only two pages for your story. Thus, 24 stories were created. Tomáš Pavlovský.
